DAY 1: Arrival + Welcome Dinner

Arrive at Tocumen International Airport (PTY) and check in to your centrally located hotel. In the evening, meet your travel sisters for a welcome dinner featuring delicious Panamanian cuisine and traditional entertainment to kick off the week together.

DAY 2: Panama City Tour + Panama Canal + Cooking Class

Explore the highlights of Panama City during a guided cultural and historical tour. Visit the world-famous Panama Canal, explore the colorful streets of Casco Viejo, and learn about Panama's history and culture. Later, participate in an Afro-Panamanian cooking class and enjoy the traditional meal you prepare.

DAY 3: Indigenous Village + Waterfall Adventure

Visit an Indigenous Panamanian community for an immersive cultural experience. Learn about local traditions, history, artwork, music, and daily life before enjoying a traditional lunch. Cruise along the river through the rainforest and take a short guided walk to a scenic waterfall where you can take photos, relax, or enjoy a refreshing swim.

DAY 4: Free Time + Salsa Experience

DAY 5: Taboga Island Boat Day + Farewell Dinner

Sail to beautiful Taboga Island while enjoying music, tropical views, and select beverages onboard. Spend time exploring the island, relaxing near the beach, and enjoying lunch before sailing back to Panama City. In the evening, celebrate the end of the trip with a beautiful farewell dinner.

What payment methods are accepted?

You can reserve your spot through the Afro Elevate website using the available payment methods at checkout. Monthly payment plans are available through Shop Pay. A non-refundable deposit of $600 is required to secure your spot. The remaining balance must be paid in full by November 15, 2026.

Do I need a passport or visa?

A valid passport is required to travel to Panama. U.S. citizens do not need a tourist visa for this trip. Your passport should remain valid for at least three months beyond your arrival date. Travelers may also be asked to provide proof of a return flight and sufficient funds for their stay. Travelers who are not U.S. citizens are responsible for confirming the entry requirements for their nationality before booking.

What is the arrival airport?

Travelers should arrive at and depart from Tocumen International Airport in Panama City. Airport Code: PTY. Group airport transfers are included during the designated arrival and departure windows. Travelers arriving outside of these windows may be responsible for arranging and paying for their own transportation. Tocumen International Airport is Panama City's primary international airport.

Are flights included?

No. Round-trip flights to and from Panama City are not included in the trip price. Travelers are responsible for booking their own flights to Tocumen International Airport (PTY).

Is travel insurance required?

Yes. Travel insurance is mandatory for all travelers attending an Afro Elevate trip. Your policy should provide coverage for unexpected situations such as trip cancellation, travel delays, medical emergencies, and lost or delayed luggage. Proof of coverage will be required before departure.

What's the weather like in January?

January is part of Panama's dry season. Travelers can generally expect warm, tropical weather, sunny days, and summer breezes. Brief showers are still possible, so bringing a lightweight rain jacket or small umbrella is recommended.

What should I pack?

Pack lightweight and breathable clothing, comfortable walking shoes, secure water shoes, sandals, swimwear, sunscreen, insect repellent, sunglasses, and a hat. You should also bring an outfit for the welcome and farewell dinners, a light rain jacket, and a small day bag for excursions.

Are airport transfers included?

Yes. Round-trip group airport transfers are included during the designated arrival and departure windows. The official transfer schedule will be shared with confirmed travelers closer to the trip. Travelers who arrive early, stay additional nights, or book flights outside the group transfer windows may need to arrange their own airport transportation.

Will there be free time?

Yes. Day 4 includes free time during the morning and afternoon. You may relax at the hotel, book a spa treatment, go shopping, explore Casco Viejo, visit a museum, or participate in an optional activity. Optional activities and transportation during free time are not included in the trip price.

What currency is used in Panama?

The U.S. dollar is widely used throughout Panama. Panama also uses the balboa, which is equal in value to the U.S. dollar and is generally circulated as coins. Credit and debit cards are accepted at many establishments in Panama City, but carrying a small amount of cash is recommended for tips, local vendors, and personal purchases.
